Blueberry Buckle Says Summer to Us

Call it a crisp, crumble, cobbler or buckle, my family simply calls this summertime dessert THAT favorite blueberry buckle we all love.

This dessert is so easy to throw together that you’ll be tempted to bring it to all of your warm weather outings when friends say, SURE you can bring a dessert. In fact, you’ll probably volunteer to make this moist cake once you’ve tried it yourself.

Be sure to use the freshest blueberries you can find. If you’ve ever picked your own, you know how much effort it takes to gather a load of them. Be sure to support your local growers and buy from farmers at your greenmarket or head out to the field and pick your own.

Want to know what defines the topping for seasonal fruit desserts? There is so little variation that topping terms like crisp, crumble, cobbler, buckle, grunt, slump, pandowdy and brown Betty are only of interest to a handful of food nerds.

If you’re like me and are actually interested, click here to read what separates the grunts from the slumps. Maybe you’ll find this handy one day??

I baked this blueberry buckle in a 9 x 13 ceramic baking dish like this one. I stock up on pans like these when I find them on sale because they’re so easy to clean and the bright colors look great when you move the pan from oven to table. These pans are almost one inch deeper than a 9×13 Pyrex, making this a great investment for other deep dish cooking, like lasagnas or anything saucy.

Happy summer! Go pick blueberries while they’re in season :)))
