Easy Summer Nosh: Smoked Trout Canapés

I had the honor of interviewing my friend, cookbook author and keynote speaker, Leah Koenig, at our third annual Southern CT Jewish Food Festival a few days ago. We dished about global Jewish foods, highlighting  the pressing question, what makes Jewish food Jewish, anyway?

Ask either of us and we’d be glad to chat about recipe adaptations, cultural influences and over-the-top versions of classics that are probably best left unchanged.

Leah demonstrated two recipes from her cookbook, Little Book of Jewish Appetizers, including the Smoked Trout Canapés. For all of you smoked salmon and lox fans, you’ll love these flaked bits of salty trout atop lightly seasoned cream cheese spread. Arrange over cocktail pumpernickel slices (remember those from your parents’ fancy cocktail parties?) or crisp melba toast and you’ve got a substantial tidbit sure to divert your guests’ attentions until dinner is ready.

Scroll down for recipe.
