Labor Day weekend may be upon us but we have zero intention of packing away our white jeans or slowing down on our ice cream consumption.
We recently got hooked on Forte gelato- a nutritious, innovative and kosher frozen treat that will have your taste buds singing. And, it’s uber cool that the founder is from my hometown in CT. How much do we love Forte gelato? Here are some of the ways. Continue reading

One (and we really mean just one) of the many reasons we flock to the The Granola Bar is that there really is something for all Westporters there.
Early morning, frothy cappuccino after dropping the kids off at school? Check. Fresh, simple, locally sourced seasonal ingredients? Check. Breakfast at lunchtime? Refreshing, healthy smoothie pick-me-up? Creative sandwiches (like one of our faves, the House Bubby) and plenty of other kosher-friendly, vegetarian, and even gluten-free choices? Check, check, check.
So maybe we are just telling you stuff you already knew…
In that case, you’re in luck, because there are some more things cooking in their kitchen that you might not have heard about yet! Continue reading
I picked up about a dozen tomatoes from one of my favorite farms here in CT as I was heading home from an early morning walk at the beach today. I am happy to go out of my way to see what’s being offered at Stahursky Farm.
Single words burnished into weathered plaques inform passersby about what has been picked from the field that morning.
There’s always a lot of buzz around Le Farm, Bill Taibe‘s farm to table restaurant in Westport, CT. Taibe is admirably and firmly committed to sourcing from many of my favorite farms within a short distance from his charming and very popular restaurant.
Truth is though, I’ve struggled to find enough vegetarian friendly fare to keep me going back as a regular. So imagine my surprise when Executive Chef, Arik Bensimon Continue reading

There are so many things to love about the Westport Farmers’ Market and with the summer market opening last Thursday we were lucky to snatch a little time with Lori Cochran Dougall, Market Director, so she could TELL US MORE about this thriving local shopping and dining experience.

After their highly successful launch of O.A.T.S. Granola, Westport “mom-preneurs” Dana Noorily and Julie Levitt have jointly opened an “enlightened” Westport eatery called The Granola Bar where you can pick up some of their famous granola, sip on some delicious coffee from Tobey’s Estate in Brooklyn, or nibble on simple, clean, whole foods.
Why do we like this place so much? Continue reading
It’s all about love, comfort, joy and a celebration of family traditions at With Love From the Cupboard, a Westport, Connecticut based boutique-styled artisanal bakery full of delectable, heartwarming desserts.
When she was a little girl, Chef and owner of With Love From the Cupboard, Nicole Peranick spent her afternoons and weekends happily baking with her grandmother. She would often tip toe downstairs, as her parents were still sleeping, so she could surprise them with warm pancakes and baked treats she loved to whip up. Continue reading
Briana Pennell, owner/baker at Steam
text and photos by Katy Morris
“Locally acquired, Chef inspired” is their mantra and it is perfectly fitting. Steam Coffee Bar, which first opened at the Greens Farms train station and is now also at the Westport station in CT. It is full of locally sourced, healthy and delicious treats, and of course, steaming hot coffee. Co-owner and Chef Briana Pennell was kind enough to sit down with me to give me an inside peek on what makes their place so unique.
She also shared recipes. We love that. Continue reading

You wonder how you’ve arrived at this hour, AGAIN, without being prepared. It’s not a surprise, after all, that sometime between lunch and twilight you will be rummaging through your bag or desk frantically searching for a snack to satisfy that grumbling.
When that late afternoon craving finally settles in, what do you reach for?
What’s YOUR 4:00? Continue reading
Labor Day’s signal is loud and clear.
Like Pavlov’s dogs, we respond to the first Monday in September with a wave of sadness as the date proclaims that summer is over. Not so fast!
I’ll take this Labor Day to give thanks to those who advocate for fair wages, better working conditions, and fair trade. Now is a good time to re-state our commitment to honoring those who grow our food with concern for our environment and better nutrition for our families.
I’ve come closer to my food sources this year, through an all organic, GMO free, guaranteed local farmers’ market in my hometown, in Westport, CT. As a result of the persistent efforts and support of town leaders, a visionary and super smart (and strict) market manager and tireless volunteers, I can now turn to my local (within 120 miles) market for farm fresh deliciousness each and every week.
