When a cookbook author launches her intro with a line like “I don’t always love to cook,” her honesty feels like the confession of a delightfully candid friend. Or something we each feel, but probably don’t say, as we face another ___________ (fill in the blank: Monday, weekend, holiday, Shabbat, work week, school week, family dinner….)
It’s this tone of openness that first attracted me to Kim Kushner’s The New Kosher, Simple Recipes to Savor and Share (2015).
Watch for our cookbook give-away later this week!

Classic French Toast doesn’t take much to prepare. And we would never knock it as a great starter recipe for young kids wanting to thrill Moms with breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day.
In fact, it never crossed our minds to stray from the basic challah soaked, cinnamon laced, eggy breakfast fave that we all love. Paired with fresh summer strawberries and local maple syrup, we were always happy (we thought) to use up thick slices of delicious challah that were on the path to becoming stale by Monday.

I’ve always been pleased to see so many non-meat alternatives for vegetarians dining at Prime Grill in NYC.
Chef David Kolotkin is as creative with apps and salads as he is with beef entrees. And with a fish section including rich entrees, like Teriyaki Glazed Chilean Sea Bass with Cauliflower Curry Puree and Red Snapper en Papillote, there’s really something for everyone at Prime.
My favorite fish dish nods subtly to Middle Eastern ingredients in this recipe for Falafel Crusted Salmon. Continue reading
